Personal Statement
My name is Liam McKenna. I have lived for nearly 50 years in Guernsey. Married to Lorraine with four children. As a Dental Health Care Professional I work in the Care Home, Nursing Home and Hospital and provide a denture service to the Island community. My education from Hautes Capelles gave me a foundation academically and socially to eventually gain a Master’s degree in Advanced and Specialist Healthcare. Over £250,000 has been raised by the Guernsey Dinner Boxing for all local charities. It is an honour to be involved for over twenty years as Master of Ceremonies. More recently the commentating has expanded to all Guernsey swimming events and the Royal Guernsey Golf Club. I love Guernsey. Our working class, social and family values are admired by all who visit our island. The States of Guernsey and Deputies should and must represent us, the working class that built our Island and protect our future.
- No to GST, No to Capital Gains Tax, No to Inheritance Tax and No to raising Taxes.
- No to the States of Guernsey taking our parents and grandparents homes to pay for nursing and residential care, robbing future Guernsey generations from owning their own home.
- Yes to bringing Global Business and Investment into Guernsey, boosting our jobs and economy.
- Yes to permanent residency licences to the highly qualified professionals that will benefit our children’s education and our community life.
Manifesto
I do not intend to produce a typical manifesto. We read so many that promise the world.
Looking back on the last manifestos of States Deputies in 2016, I was left frustrated and very disappointed. I, like all of us in Guernsey have views and opinions on all local and current issues that will affect all our families in the near future.
I believe the States of Guernsey should:
- Cut back on the wasteful spending of our money, the current poor decisions of the States has cost us the tax payers dearly.
We had the largest public protest march in living memory before lockdown. Education deputies wanted to borrow £200 million, then some prominent deputies wanted to bring in GST, capital gains and inheritance tax. If we do not vote change we risk financial ruin. The hard working people of Guernsey do not deserve to be treated like this.
Do not allow Guernsey to be changed anymore. We are unique, we are a paradise.
We excel on the world stage in sport. Guernsey provides safety, security and community life that is the envy of the world.
Encourage and offer our children an education that facilitates them to become the best that they can be.
Together, through this political darkness, a brighter day will come.
It would be an honour to receive your vote and to serve the people of Guernsey after the elections of 2020.
