Manifesto
Dear Elector,
My extensive background and experience in the States, and the work ahead of us over the next four and a half years to keep Guernsey safe and prosperous, can be found at
www.lyndontrott.gg
In brief, this is why I am offering myself for re-election and why I believe a vote for me will help keep the island we love working for the benefit of everyone. The challenges we face as a small community are many and I will always, and have always, worked to maintain the highest standards. Good government doesn’t just happen. It requires honesty, integrity judgement and dedication.
Economic support
On your behalf, if re-elected, I will continue to work repairing Guernsey’s economy following the Covid crisis while supporting families and businesses so badly affected by the emergency measures we took to keep the island’s people safe.
This is the single most important domestic task facing the new States, because without a strong, well-managed and diverse economy providing good jobs we cannot afford the public services on which we all depend. I believe I have demonstrated that you can trust me with your money and your future.
Open Market
Guernsey’s Open Market housing sector is an increasingly important economic enabler but it has not received the acknowledgement it deserves. I will work to ensure the sector is enhanced and that those in it and the contribution they make are recognised, encouraged and valued.
Education and skills
I supported retaining selection, but accept the States’ decision to end that and am now committed to ensuring parents have the opportunities for their children that they want and need. I also supported ‘Pause and Review’ in regard to the plans for our secondary schools because I heard your concerns and, like you, recognise that for the sake of our children and grandchildren this is one decision we must not get wrong. We must invest further in the skills and training of our current and future workforce.
The environment
I will continue to make your voice heard on planning – for example, by fighting against over-development, over-density and the unwelcome use of greenfield sites. We live on a beautiful island and we must ensure we keep it that way, with greater ecological investment to enhance the environment, biodiversity and the appeal of Guernsey.
Green Investment globally, actively driven by Guernsey, is making a real difference in the fight against climate change by cleaning up business and removing CO2 from the atmosphere. But there is much more we can do as our major industry is once again part of the solution and not the problem.
The next generation
I want younger islanders to have the opportunity to build their futures in Guernsey. We need a fit-for-purpose education system, real and long-term investment in skills and a States that listens to our island’s young people – not one that tells them we know best.
The older generation
I will continue to fight to ensure our parents and grandparents – our pensioners – get a fair income, good health and social care and the right help and support. For the past 18 years I have opposed taking homes off hard-working families to fund long-term care and will continue to do so on your behalf.
Public spending and the economy
My approach here is simple – to protect hard-working families and those in retirement. My full manifesto sets out nine key ways of doing just that, through prudence, economic fairness, investment and working to minimise the tax burden on you and your family.
So why am I worthy of a vote?
I pledge to do all that I can to ensure Guernsey is fair to all islanders and that, from young people to pensioners, all will continue to have in me a voice in government they can trust, and someone who will listen to their concerns and act upon them.
In a world challenged by rapid change, I offer experience, knowledge and a proven ability to act swiftly for Guernsey and its people.
Not left or right: just straight forward.
“I have always found you can completely trust Lyndon to do what he says he will do – and that is a quality not to be underestimated in government”
